Miscarriages

The workup of miscarriages should involve a pap smear for HPV or human papilloma virus. There are early and late spontaneous abortions. Early abortions are more frequent and appear during the first eight weeks of the development. With time, the risks are decreased, yet an miscarriage may happen at the gestation period of 8-20 weeks also, which is called a late pregnancy loss. If the miscarriage occurs after it is 20 weeks, it is called stillbirth. The workup of miscarriages should involve a pap smear for HPV or human papilloma virus.
